The Sigma Alpha, Alpha Xi chapter of the William H. Darr School of Agriculture hosted the Region three Consultant, Melinda Rathman, on Saturday Feb. 25 for their national visit.
“It was a great day filled with learning about and bonding with our sisters as well as goal setting and learning techniques and information on how to better our chapter.” Said Sigma Alpha’s current President Talia Pendergrass.
The national visit consisted of sisterhood, planning events and learning to work more effectively as a team. Melinda helped the MSU chapter set goals for the coming months and evaluate personalities to better understand each individual member. The day ended with each sister explaining something sentimental and important to the rest of the chapter.
Micala King of the Chi rush class said, “I got to spend hours laughing and learning with my sisters!”
The MSU chapter currently has four new Membership Candidates for the spring semester and Psi rush class. During rush week the chapter focuses on tradition. Some of the annual events are bigger better night and the progressive dinner with their brother fraternities; Alpha Gamma Rho and Alpha Gamma Sigma. The Membership Candidates must take weekly quizzes to prepare for their final test and initiation.
Sisterhood, social, philanthropy, leadership and fellowship are what the chapter focuses on throughout the year. Sigma Alpha is currently planning a chapter retreat and new fundraisers for the coming semesters.
Sigma Alpha is a professional agricultural sorority with 56 chapters nationally. The national philanthropy is agriculture in the classroom.
